Erosion Control Installation

Straw Wattles are
installed on slopes
or in channels to intercept
water flow,
retain sediment and
aid re-vegetation

Wattles are typically installed in a 50-75 mm deep trench that is constructed along the contour, perpendicular to the slope or direction of flow.

Ends of the wattles shall be turned up the slope, so as to retain water and prevent it from flowing around the end of the wattle.

Wattles shall be secured to the ground by wooden stakes spaced approximately every 1.2 m along the length of the wattle.

Stakes, approximately 25mm x 25mm shall be driven through the centre of the wattle and into the ground, to a depth of between 150 - 300mm dependant on ground type.

The stake should have approximately 50mm exposed above the wattle.

A stake shall be placed within 150mm of the end of the wattle. When joining two wattles, tightly abut both ends.
